Anadolu coğrafyasının en büyük gölü olma özelliğine sahip olan Van Gölü, tarihi süreç içerisinde birçok medeniyetin ilgi odağı olmuştur. Deniz veya derya olarak adlandırılan Van Gölü'nün denizcilik faaliyetleri bakımından en iyi bilinen kısmını ise Osmanlı Devleti'nin hâkimiyet dönemi oluşturmuştur. Devlet'in bölgedeki hâkimiyetini sağlamlaştırması ile denizcilik faaliyetleri arttırılmış ve Van Gölü'ndeki suyolu taşımacılığı önem kazanmıştır. Gölün İran tarafına yakın olması, yapılan seferler boyunca ordunun zahire ihtiyacının göl bağlantılı gerçekleşmesine olanak tanımış ve bu durum bölgeye askerî önem kazandırmıştır. Bu çalışmada, belirtilen dönemde Van Gölü üzerinde gemi imal çalışmaları, Osmanlı Devleti'nin Van Gölü'nden istifade ediş biçimi ve bu durumun bölgede oluşturmuş olduğu askerî, ekonomik ve siyasi önem ele alınmaya çalışılmıştır. Van Lake, which has the distinction of being the largest lake in the Anatolian geography, it has hosted many civilizations in the historical process. The most well-know part of the Lake Van, which is know as the sea and the sea, in terms of maritime activities is undoubtedly the domination process of the Ottoman State. Maritime activities have been increased with the state's strengthening of its dominance in the region and in Van Lake waterway transportation has gained importance. The proximity of the lake to the Iranian side enabled the army's need for grain to be realized in connection with the lake during the campaigns and this situation gave the region military importance. In this study, shipbuilding works on Lake Van in the specified period, the way the Ottoman Empire benefited from Lake Van and the military, economic and political importance of this situation in the region were tried to be discussed.
